STUD REPORT
2006/07

With weaning finally over and the rain and snow falling, the paddocks look as though they may grow some grass. The days are starting to get longer and with that the ponies have ventured back into the stables, for I’m sure a nice warm nights sleep.

Karlana Say Farewell (S.P Paparazzi / Imperial Lady Cathryn)
has been getting some riding around the Thornton hills of late
and as this goes to press, will be getting ready for his first outing
as a saddle horse. Emily & Vicki McKernan who did such a
fabulous job with Karlana Spring Lily (S.P Paparazzi / F.A Lily)
have had Nigel for about 4 weeks preparing him for the Sports
Pony Dressage comp at Werribee at the start of August. We look
forward to  him competing under saddle this year after a successful
in hand season last year winning at numerous shows. His first
season at stud, he covered 4 mares with all having positive
pregnancies. We look forward to seeing these foals. His first
foal Keira Park Cascade has recently been sold to New Zealand,
we wish the new owners great success with this wonderful fellow.

Last season we sold Karlana Snapshot a 14.1 chestnut
mare by Stanton Park Paparazzi out of
Astral Walk to Thailand, Amy is doing very
well over there and taking all before her.

Karlana Standing Ovation
(Stanton Park Rave Review out Fairlight Acres Kianna)
started the show season off for us with a win in the
Novice Saddle Pony at Adelaide Royal.
Karlana Tailor Made a yearling filly by Ljs Limited Edition
out of S.P. Moment in Time had a great show season
winning at the Summer Royal, finalist at the
Victorian Riding Pony Classic and then a win
and reserve yearling filly at the Victorian Youngstock Show.
Karlana Opening Night, a grey two yr old gelding by
Ljs Limited Edition  out of F.A Kianna, won his class
each time he was shown , winning at the
Victorian Riding Pony Pageant, the Royal and
ended the season Champion two yrs gelding
at the Youngstock show. We plan to have him out
under saddle as a 4 year old.
Karlana Classic Edition
(Ljs Limited Edition/ Mirinda Powder Puff)
was Supreme Riding pony at Whittlesea Agricultural
and was 2nd at the Royal to eventual
supreme led riding pony Whiterose Michelangelo
(also by Ljs Limited Edition).

On the breeding front, we had eight riding pony foals, 4 colts
4 fillies, Karlana Premiere (Ljs Limited Edition/ Cimarron Show Me)
a liver chestnut colt who should mature to 14.1, has been sold
to a lovely home who will eventually show him under saddle,
Karlana Gold Edition (Ljs Limited Edition/ Karlana Spring Lily)
a buckskin colt has been given to Vicki and Emily McKernan
as a thank you for the wonderful and successful job that they did on
Karlana Spring Lily. Fairley Perdita (mother of this year
Champion Small Pony Sydney Royal Ljs Prediction) produced
a cracking little chestnut colt by Ljs Limited Edition for us, who
will definitely stay under 12.2 and should follow in his sister
footsteps in the future. S.P Moment in Time had a very extreme
black filly (By Ljs Limited Edition), which is a full sister to
Tailor Made, we hope to campaign her this year.
F.A. Fancy Free produced a beautiful liver chestnut filly
with a bit of chrome and blond mane and tail, will stand
out from the crowd. F.A Duchess (former Baratsoc winner)
had the sweetest chestnut colt, which will make a wonderful
saddle pony in the future. Karlana Water Lily (S.P Rave Review/ F.A. Lily) had a very dark chestnut filly which is very similar in looks to her a famous grandfather and finally Astral Walk produced a big brown filly (By Ljs Limited Edition) which we have decided to retain. We plan on showing this filly later on this year as well.

By the time these goes to print the season will have already started, we wish everyone a successful season and if you are ever in the area call in and see us.

2007/08

It seems strange that a full season has come and gone and that we are now back to bringing the ponies in for the forthcoming season.

Here at Karlana we decided to pull the pin with the youngstock back in November 07, so there isn’t a great deal to report on the showing front. Although we did prepare and produce the yearling Palomino colt Keira Park Cascade for Lyn Hodgson (Imperial Park NZ) and Liz Carlile (Keira Park) , Keira Park Cascade (Snow) is the 1st foal by our home bred stallion Karlana Say Farewell. Snow started off his well preformed show career with Champion Arabian Derivative Youngstock at Barastoc Horse of the Year, the following weekend he was Champion Open, Palomino, Arabain Derivative, Part Welsh and Riding Pony at the Rochester Agricultural Show. His next outing was the Royal Melbourne Summer Show where he won the strong yearling Riding Pony Colt class over 12.3hh and then was Reserve Champion Welsh Part-Bred youngstock.  He continued on the season by winning Champion Yearling Arabian Riding Pony at the Diamond Showcase, the Supreme Champion Arabian Derivative Yearling/ Weanling at the VAHA Petstock Foal Show and then was Supreme Overall Yearling at the Magic Breeds Foal show. He is now spelling and will be back with us to prepare for the 2008 season, before heading over to New Zealand.

With Karlana Say Farewell broken in we decided to do a bit of dressage with him. His first time out was the ASPR Dressage in August 2007, he placed 3rd in the 1.3. His next outing was at Barastoc where he won the dressage in the under 13hh male section of the performance pony, since then he has competed at a couple more comps and placed each time.

On the breeding side we had 5 foals , 4 fillies & 1 colt. Fairlight Acres Kianna produced a very pretty bay filly by LJS Limited Edition, Willowcroft Lymeric produced a tall and scopey filly by LJS Limited Edition, Mirinda Powder Puff produced a elegant brown colt by LJS Limited Edition (full brother to Karlana Classic Edition), Stanton park Diamond Lil produced a very typey black filly by Stanton Park Paparazzi and the last was a little and fine bay filly who is by Pendley Gold Cup out of Kirreway Bardot.

We had some great news that Karlana Say Farewell produced 2 dilutes in his first season at stud with us, the 12.2hh chestnut mare Langtree Just A Dream owned by the Devrome family produced a well marked Palomino colt and Mirinda Fairylights owned by Annie Coxon of Stanton Park had a pretty buckskin filly with 4 little socks.

In January 2008 we had the pleasure of traveling to New Zealand and judging the New Zealand Grand Nationals, this show is a credit to the organizers what a pleasure it was to be asked to judge and their hospitality was superb.
